Long Island South Shore Estuary Reserve Office

The South Shore Estuary Reserve (Reserve) Office works in partnership with the Reserve Council and other key estuary stakeholders to advance implementation of priority actions recommended in the Reserve’s Comprehensive Management Plan (CMP) adopted in 2001. Office staff provide administrative and technical support to the Council, its committees and workgroups, as well as conducting education, outreach and stewardship programs to enhance public awareness and appreciation of the Reserve’s many resources. The Reserve Council and Office receive technical and financial assistance through the New York State Department of State, Office of Coastal, Local Government and Community Sustainability.

The Reserve Office helps coordinate and monitor the actions of CMP implementation partners including local governments, non-profit organizations, community groups and residents to restore and protect the Reserve’s natural and cultural resources while sustaining its maritime-related economy. Located in the heart of the Village of Freeport’s Nautical Mile, the Reserve Office is an important source of information on the progress of CMP implementation and effective ways that the interested public can participate in this important effort. Please feel free to visit when in the area, the staff welcomes your comments and ideas.
